Description

M9, break barrel, double action, single shot, breech loading flare pistol. The pistol is made from steel stampings and has an internal percussion hammer. The barrel is seamless tubed hinged to the frame of the handle which is released by a breach lock. The grips are black plastic. The pistol is painted gloss black. Markings - US PROPERTY PISTOL PYROTECHNIC; M9 FLARE PISTOL; E-218750.

History / Summary

The M9 flare pistol was used to project pyrotechnic signals from an airplane in flight. It was standard equipment in many aircraft built in the United States during the Second World War and was also used by the Royal Australian Air Force on C 47 Dakota transport aircraft.
