Group portrait of the original members of the 6th Battalion band with their instruments. Identified is: 238 Private (Pte) James Leonard Prendergast (second row, second from left). Pte Prendergast, of Benambra, Vic, enlisted on 4 August 1914 and embarked on 19 October 1914 from Melbourne aboard HMAT Hororata. He returned to Australia on 8 October 1918. Next to him (second row, far left) is an unidentified Aboriginal serviceman.
