Studio portrait of NX71913 Private Ronald Joseph Donnelly, an Aboriginal serviceman, of Eungai, NSW. Pte Donnelly enlisted on 24 March 1941 in Paddington, NSW. He trained in Australia with the 5th Australian Infantry Training Battalion and the 1st Australian Infantry Training Battalion before serving in Singapore with the 2/20th Battalion. Pte Donnelly was reported missing in Malaya on 16 February 1942, he is believed to be one of 300 Australians who were transferred to Naoetsu Camp in Joetsu City, Japan. He was recovered from this camp on 5 September 1945 and returned to Australia via Manila. He was discharged on 15 December 1945.
