Studio portrait of 4341 Private (Pte) Louis John Woodland, 5th Battalion of Wodonga, Vic. Pte Woodland embarked with 13th Reinforcements on 29 December 1915 on HMAT Demosthenes. He died of wounds aged 26 on 15 October 1918 and is buried at St Sever Cemetery Extension, Rouen, France. His brother, 3660 Private (Pte) Charles William Woodland, 59th Battalion, died of wounds aged 23 on 21 July 1916 and is buried at Bailleul Communal Cemetery Extension (see P04909.012). A third brother, 2514 Pte Arthur Woodland, 57th Battalion, returned to Australia on 21 March 1919 aged 24. All three brothers worked as carpenters prior to enlistment.
