Description
Two veterans are once again flying together, they are 223382 Leading Aircraftman (LAC) Thomas Barry (Tom) Farr, of Bathurst, NSW, (left) and 21702 Sergeant (Sgt) Gordon D Buttriss, of Sefton, NSW (right). The two were crewmen on the No 9 Squadron, RAAF, Iroquois helicopter which crashed and burnt in the Nui Thi Vai Mountains on 18 October 1966. Sgt Buttriss was the only one not seriously hurt and he saved two Australian Army passengers and the co-pilot, who would have almost certainly died in the flames. Sgt Buttriss was later awarded the George Medal for his bravery. LAC Farr has only recently returned to flying duties after spending several weeks in hospital with a severely bruised stomach from the crash.
