Description

The commander of the United Nations troops in Cyprus, General (Gen) Kodendera Thimayya (right), talks with Sergeant (Sgt) Robert Macdonald, of Lithgow, NSW, (left) during a tour of peace force units. Sgt Macdonald was a member of the United Nations Civilian Police (UNCIVPOL), attached to the United Nations Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP). Gen Thimayya, a former Chief of Staff of the Indian Army, was appointed commander of the force on its establishment in April 1964. He died while still commander, in December 1965.
