105 mm F22 Pattern Ammunition Box
Wooden transportation box to carry 2 x 105 mm M1 High Explosive howitzer cartridges, each individually packaged in a cylindrical transportation container. The box and lid are made from pine board. The box has external dimensions of: length 945 mm, width 305 mm, height 170 mm. The internal dimensions are: length 815 mm; width 265 mm, height 130 mm. The lid is hinged on one side and has two securable latches on the other. There is a rope carry handle on each end. The outside of the box is painted olive drab, the inside is unpainted.
Example of a 105 mm cartridge transportation box used by the Australian Army for the transportation of two 105 mm howitzer cartridges per box. This transportation box was in use when the howitzers were adopted by the Australian army during the Vietnam War and were still in use in 2005. This box is from the collection of munitions originally held by the Australian Defence Industries Factory at Benalla in Victoria.
