Description
Portrait of 324 Private (Pte) James George Brown, a horse-breaker of South Melbourne, Vic, prior to enlistment on 18 September 1915. He joined the 1st Remount Unit and embarked from Melbourne aboard HMAT Orsova on 12 November 1915. He is seen here riding a bucking horse at a buck-jumping contest in Egypt. Visible between the front legs of the horse is Captain Andrew Barton 'Banjo' Patterson, the famous Australian writer and poet, who was also a member of the Remount Unit. Pte Brown was later promoted to sergeant and returned to Australia on 26 July 1919.
