Description
A group portrait of some unidentified Australian soldiers from 9 Platoon (9 Pl), C Company, 4th Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (4RAR), sighting their weapons in at the Bokah rifle range prior to deploying for a Claret patrol. It was standard procedure to test fire and zero in all weapons before going out on patrol. Three of the men are armed with L1A1 Self Loading Rifles (SLR) and one man (third from left) is armed with an M16 rifle mounted on a bipod. The man standing (right) is 57068 Lieutenant (Later Brigadier) Rodney Gerald (Rod) Curtis, Officer Commanding 9 Platoon and later awarded the Military Cross on 16 May 1967. He also served in South Vietnam with 9th Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (9RAR) from 1968-1969.
