Portrait of S1388 Lieutenant (Lt) Donald George Bradman, at the Army School of Physical and Recreational Training (P&RT) in Frankston, Vic. Previously employed as a stock and share broker, he enlisted for service on 6 January 1941 in his home town of Kensington Park, SA. He was discharged on 30 April 1941. Donald Bradman is famous not only in Australia, but worldwide, for his success in the sport of cricket. He is widely regarded as the sport's greatest player and an outstanding athlete. His career batting average of 99.94 runs per innings has never been beaten and is 30 runs higher than his closest competitor. He was knighted in 1949 for his service to the sport of cricket. Sir Donald Bradman died in Adelaide in 2001, aged 92.
