Description
O33062 Wing Commander (Wing Cdr) Roy Stewart Royston, of Canberra, ACT is seen here at the controls of his Iroquois helicopter at Vung Tau, South Vietnam. Wing Cdr Royston, the Commanding Officer (CO) of No 9 Squadron, RAAF, knowingly damaged his helicopter recently in a daring jungle rescue of four badly wounded South Vietnamese troops during an operation against the Viet Cong (VC) in Phuoc Tuy Province. He had used the main rotor blades of his helicopter to shear off light branches and widen a clearing so he could land and evacuate the wounded troops.
