History / Summary

This banner was used to advertise a fundraising activity for the war effort held by a church at Wodonga on the Cowra Road near Young and is thought to have been attached to a tree. It was retrieved and used post-war by Joseph Robinson, a war veteran who lived alone in a shack beside the road. Local fundraising activities were popular and numerous during the First World War and this is a typical example of a handmade banner from the period.
