Portrait of Ron Barassi at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) A rover who played for the Melbourne Football Club between 1936 and 1940, Barassi was one of four Melbourne premiership players - Keith 'Bluey' Truscott, Sid Anderson and Harold Ball who were killed in action during the Second World War. VX45220 Ronald James Barassi of Footscray, Vic, enlisted on 15 July 1940 and served with the rank of corporal in the AASC, 7th Divisional Supply Column. On 31 July 1941 he was killed at Tobruk, aged 27.
