Portrait of NX35709 Private (Pte) Ancel Arthur Williams, 2/19th Battalion, of Westby, NSW. Pte Williams enlisted on 25 June 1940. He was posthumously awarded the Military Medal (MM) on 5 March 1942 for his work as a stretcher bearer when 'Under heavy artillery and rifle fire at Bakri and Parit Sulong, Malaya, he went many times into occupied territory to bring in wounded soldiers...' He was presumed dead on 22 January 1942 in Malaya.
