Creek, Robert Neil (Sapper, b.1945)
Collection relating to the Vietnam War service of 3791192 Sapper Robert Neil Creek, 3 Troop, 1 Field Squadron, Royal Australian Engineers, November 1967 - March 1968.
Wallet 1 of 1 consists of a letter written to his wife on a Qantas air sickness bag describing his thoughts while flying to Vietnam, four photographs showing Creek at Puckapunyal [1967], in Vietnam [1967], in 1 Field Hospital Vung Tau [1968] and a photocopy of a photograph at SME Casula [1967], and two cards sent to Creek from Lady Maie Casey, wife of Governor General Richard Casey [1965-69].
The collection also includes two books written by Maie Casey, one of which contains amendments and an inscription from the author. The amendments in the book suggest that it was a personal copy owned by Lady Casey prior to being gifted. Finally, the collection contains a manuscript titled 'Book in a Box' written by Sapper Creek. The manuscript, written in 2002, contains an account of Creek's experiences during the Vietnam War, including patrol work, being wounded, his time at American and Australian hospitals, and his repatriation to Australia.
