Description

The original grave of Captain Adjutant Headquarters Mervyn Bournes Higgins, C Squadron, 8th Light Horse, of Malvern, Vic. A barrister prior to enlistment on 3 February 1915, Higgins embarked from Melbourne aboard HMAT Star of Victoria on 25 February 1916. At time of embarkation he was a lieutenant. Higgins was killed in action on 23 December 1916 at Magdhaba, Egypt, aged 29 years. The wooden cross was designed and erected by Captain Harvey Sutton, a medical officer attached to the Anzac Mounted Division
