Rear Admiral Galfrey George Ormond Gatacre CBE DSO DSC(right), Flag Officer Commanding East Australia Area (FOCEA), and Vice Admiral Sir Wilfred Hastings Harrington DSO CBE KBE, Chief of Naval Staff (CNS), (wearing life jacket), speak on the deck of the RAN aircraft carrier HMAS Melbourne (II) during their visit to the ship the day after the collision with HMAS Voyager (II). In the background are Westland Wessex helicopters which have been transporting injured sailors to hospital in Sydney. The collision took place on the night of 10 February 1964, during exercises off Jervis Bay, southern NSW. HMAS Voyager sank with the loss of 82 lives.
