Informal portrait of 113157 Pilot Officer (PO) Robert John (Bob) “Spider” Rider, of Maryborough, Qld, sitting in an UH-1H Iroquois helicopter, ready for action. PO Rider has been taking part in Operation Coburg, a major sweep against the Viet Cong (VC) in the Bien Hoa Province of South Vietnam. After completing his flying training at the RAAF Base Pearce, WA, he converted to Iroquois helicopters at the RAAF Base Fairbairn, Canberra, ACT, and he was posted to No 9 Squadron, Vietnam in August 1967.
