Studio portrait of 3487A Private (Pte) Cyril John Bourne, 9th Reinforcements, 53rd Battalion, of Granville, NSW. A carpenter prior to enlisting on 20 November 1916, he embarked from Sydney aboard HMAT Anchises on 24 January 1917. Pte Bourne received a shrapnel wound to the head and died on 29 September 1917 in Belgium, aged 23 years.
