Battalion flag : 2/13 Battalion, flown at Lutong, Borneo
Open weave linen flag depicting the colour patch of 2/13 Battalion, featuring a black 'T' on a larger dark green 'T' background with a wide grey border. Supplied with a rope hoist. The manufactier's cotton tag is sewn to reverse of hoist.
This flag was flown above 2/13 Battalion headquarters at Lutong, Borneo from June to November 1945. After their return from the Middle East (Tobruk and El Alamein), and campaigning in New Guinea, 2/13 Battalion were involved in the landings on Labuan Island on 10 June and secondary landings at Lutong-Miri ten days later. Their objective was the capture of oil installations and refineries. Once operations were completed, the flag was removed by NX36368 Sergeant Eric Herman of Marrar, NSW, who brought it back to Australia. An image of the flag being raised appears at AWM photograph 109800.
