Wedge-tailed eagle
Description
This shell-shaped ceramic has the painted form of the wedge-tailed eagle. Williams drew on the eagle form as a symbol of the power and strength of the Royal Australian Navy. She has adapted a traditional Chinese ceramic technique to explore the impact of war and highlight dichotomies, like those of aggression and fragility, and man-made and natural. The aggressive nature of war is explored through the missile/shell form of the sculpture, and is contrasted with the medium which is inherently fragile. They carry a personal undertone which is concerned with the fragility of family, and indeed life in general, in the face of war.
