During a tour of 1st Australian Task Force (1ATF) bases in Vietnam, Prime Minister John Grey Gorton visits the camp of the 161st Independent Reconnaissance Flight at Nui Dat to talk with officers and troops and inspect conditions. Escorting Prime Minister Gorton is 235246 Captain (Capt) John Leslie Coggan. Later in 1968, Capt Coggan was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross (DFC) for his achievements during his tour of duty in Vietnam.
