Framed studio portrait of 404385 Flight Lieutenant (Flt Lt) Patrick Vincent Maher, RAAF. Flt Lt Maher was born on 23 October 1919 at Murwillillumbah, NSW and enlisted in Brisbane, Qld, on 16 August 1940 aged 20 years. He undertook pilot training at Mildura, Vic, and served in various squadrons with RAF Coastal Command Squadron in Europe, flying out of Iceland. Coastal Command defended the United Kingdom from naval threats and countered German U-boats from the air. He was discharged from the RAAF on 16 October 1945 as a Flt Lt with No 86 Squadron. He died on 10 October 2004.
