Description

A port side view of the British battle cruiser, HMS Hood, taken from an RAF Coastal Command Hudson aircraft at 500 feet. Hood is en-route to intercept the German heavy cruiser Prinz Eugen and the battleship Bismarck, which both broke through into the North Atlantic Ocean to commence commerce raiding against allied shipping. In company with HMS Prince of Wales, Hood was sunk later in the day by the combined gunfire from the German ships, with the loss of all but three of her crew members.
