Embroidered French souvenir handkerchief : Bombardier K Klu, 1 Divisional Ammunition Column, AIF
Description
Cream silk chiffon embroidered souvenir handkerchief with a pale green machine buttonhole stitch edge. Hand embroidered in satin stitch in one corner with a red rose and mistletoe, surmounted by the flags of Britain, France and the United States. Beneath, in yellow satin stitch, is 'Souvenir from France'.
History / Summary
This handkerchief was sent home as a gift to his sister by 3236 Bombardier Karl Klu, who served with 1 Divisional Ammunition Column, AIF, while he was on leave in Paris in 1917. He enlisted for service on 16 September 1914, and returned to Australia on 23 October 1918.
