Informal portrait all members of an Australian civilian surgical team enjoying their Christmas dinner at Australia House in Long Xuyen. They had to abandon their meal when a note arrived to say that a bus load of casualties had arrived at the hospital. Identified, left to right, on left side of table (under the window): Janice Mills, nurse educator; Brian (no further information), paediatrician; Brenda (no further information), theatre and ward nurse, also in charge of nurses; Beryl (no further information), pathologist; Tom Calor, physician; Kaye (no further information), theatre nurse (married Tom Calor after returning to Australia. Front to back, right side of table: Lois (no further information), an American nurse educator, who had her own self contained living area in the Australia house gardens; Clive Bond, radiographer; Janet Glasson, theatre nurse; Lorraine Bingly, paediatrics nurse; Angela (no further information) ward nurse (back of head only visible); Dr Gordon Hudson, anaesthetist and assisted with paediatrics; Dr Ken Doust, team leader; Howard Menzies, team manager. More than 450 civilian medical and surgical staff volunteered to work in hospitals in Vietnam to instruct and teach Vietnamese medical and paramedical personnel and provide medical aid to everyone who required it.
