Royal Navy sweetheart brooch : Mrs Henrietta Grosvenor
Sterling silver and enamel sweetheart brooch in the form of a silver officer's cap badge, with red enamelled crown and blue enamelled anchor mounted on a silver bar with a brass pin back. A blue enamelled scroll beneath the badge reads 'ROYAL NAVY'.
Brooch worn by Mrs Henrietta Grosvenor during the Second World War. Mrs Grosvenor's husband, Petty Officer Clifford George Grosvenor, who she married on 20 September 1943, gave her the brooch. He served as a regular sailor in the Royal Navy both before and during the Second World War. During the war Mrs Grosvenor, who was born Henrietta Eaton in 1923 at Newton-le-Willows, Lancashire, England, worked in an armaments factory fitting fuses to bombs. She had wanted to join the Women's Royal Naval Service but her work in armaments was classified as a reserved occupation. Mrs Grosvenor, her husband and children, emigrated to Australia in 1960.
