United States issue mess tin : Pte R M Keen, 5 Battalion Royal Australian Regiment (5 RAR)
Oval shaped aluminium two-piece mess tin as issued to United States service personnel during the Vietnam War. The bottom container is split in half lengthways with two equal sized segments for food. The top half of the tin acts as a larger sized container for food. The closing latch runs lengthways under the bottom container and clasps together with the top container at the ends. The maker's details and serial number are engraved upon the closing latch and read - 'U.S. / TRICO 1960 / DA-33-031-QM-22259'.
This item is related to the service of 215056 Private Robert Malcolm Keen. Keen was born in Wagga Wagga, NSW in 1941 and served with 5 Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment (5 RAR) as a carpenter with Assault Pioneer Platoon in Support Company during their first tour of Vietnam.
