The commissioning of HMAS Armidale
Description
The commissioning of HMAS Armidale, showing the Darwin Navy band playing in front of a large crowd of naval personnel and guests at Darwin wharf. HMAS Armidale was the first of 12 new Armidale Class Patrol Boats launched by the RAN from May 2005. Based in the ports of Darwin and Cairns, the Armidale Class fleet operate within Australia's Marine Jurisdictional Zones, primarily carrying out surveillance, interception, investigation, apprehension and the escort to port of vessels suspected of illegal fishing, quarantine, customs or immigration offences.
