Description

Atmospheric gas concentrations being tested in a gas measurement field trial. These bubblers which are used to disperse chemicals are filled with acetic acid. Cylinders are used to draw air through the internal tubes. The acetic acid draws mustard gas from the air and chemists were able to ascertain the concentration of mustard gas in the area. The trial is probably in the Savannah, 10 kilometres south of Proserpine, Qld, at the permanent tropical chemical warfare testing station of the 1st Field Trials Company, Royal Australian Engineers (RAE) and was completed a few months prior to the end of the war.
