Studio portrait of 236 Company Sergeant (later Sergeant) William Wallace Bentley Allen, 9th Battalion, of North Quay, Brisbane, Queensland. A clerk prior to enlisting, he embarked from Brisbane aboard HMAT Omrah (A5) on 24 September 1914. On 25 April 1915, aged 29, he was killed in action at Gallipoli, Turkey. He is buried in the Lone Pine Cemetery, Gallipoli, Turkey. His brother, 1614 Private Charles Alexander Allen, 58th Battalion was killed in action at Polygon Wood, Belgium on 25 September 1917, aged 29.
