Studio portrait of 795 Corporal Walter Forbes Baker, 39th Battalion, of Tyntynder South via Swan Hill, Victoria. A school teacher prior to enlisting, he embarked from Melbourne aboard HMAT Ascanius (A11) on 27 May 1916. On 31 January 1917, he was wounded in action near Armentieres, France and died of his wounds on 1 February 1917 in the No. 2 Australian Casualty Clearing Station, France, aged 28. He is buried in the Trois Arbres Cemetery, Steenwerck, France.
