Studio portrait of 3130 Private Charles Gordon Campbell, 57th Battalion, of Ballarat, Victoria. A school teacher prior to enlisting, he embarked from Melbourne aboard HMAT Medic (A7) on 16 December 1916. On 11 March 1918, he was killed in action, at Wulverghem, south-east of Messines, France, aged 25. He has no known grave and is remembered with honour on the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial, France.
