Studio portrait of 5373 Private Thomas Richard Fenner, 14th Battalion of Yendon, Victoria. A teacher prior to enlisting, he embarked from Melbourne aboard HMAT Euripedes (A14) on 4 April 1916. On 29 August 1916, aged 24, he was killed in action at Mouquet Farm, France, when a high explosive shell buried him in a dugout. Post war his body was not recovered and he is commemorated with honour on the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial, France.
