Studio portrait of 2679 Private Stanley Edmond Lever, 57th Battalion of Carlton, Victoria. A student prior to enlisting, he embarked from Melbourne aboard HMAT Nestor (A71) on 2 October 1916. On 24 September 1917, aged 23, he was killed in action on his way to the front line at Glencorse Wood, Belgium, when he was struck by an high explosive shell. He is buried in the Tyne Cot Cemetery, Belgium.
