Description
Studio portrait of 3466 Private (later Sergeant) George Reginald Read, 7th (later 59th) Battalion of Bairnsdale, Victoria. A school teacher prior to enlisting, he embarked from Melbourne aboard HMAT Nestor (A71) on 11 October 1915. On 19 July 1916, he was wounded in action at Fleurbaix, France. He died of his wounds on 25 July 1916, in the No 13 General Hospital, Boulogne, France, aged 22. He is buried in the Boulogne Eastern Cemetery, France.
