Description
Studio portrait of 5759 Corporal (Cpl) Robert Henry Skinner, 8th (later 59th) Battalion of Stanley, Victoria. A school teacher prior to enlisting, he embarked from Melbourne with the rank of Private, aboard HMAT Ayrshire (A33) on 3 July 1916. On 29 September 1918, he was wounded in action near Bellicourt, France, and admitted to the 53rd Casualty Clearing Station, where he died of his wounds on 30 September 1918, aged 22. Cpl Skinner is buried in the Tincourt New British Cemetery, France.
