Studio portrait of 7342 Private (Pte) George Alfred Yung 7th Battalion of Yendon, Victoria. A school teacher prior to enlisting, he embarked from Melbourne aboard HMAT Ballarat (A70) on 19 February 1917. On 20 September 1917, during the Battle of Menin Road, Belgium, (the first operation of the Third Battle of Ypres), he was killed in action, aged 25. Pte Yung has no known grave and is remembered with honour on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial, Belgium.
