Dick Gillis was an honours graduate from Sydney University and was later a munitions chemist during the Second World War. He worked at the Munitions Supply Laboratories at Maribyrnong, Vic, and the Chemical Defence Research Centre, Melbourne, Vic. In 1992, he edited a report titled 'Field Trials with Mustard Gas' which was commissioned by the Department of Defence and contained oral testimonies of chemical warfare scientists.
