Studio portrait of John Herbert Brindley, 42nd Battery, 4th Division Ammunition Column Australian Field Artillery. A farmer of Balldale, NSW, he enlisted on 15 February 1917 and sailed with the 29th Reinforcements aboard HMAT Port Sydney on 9 September 1917. He was killed in action on 24 September 1918, aged 29, at Mouquet Farm and is buried at Tincourt New British Cemetery, France.
