Studio portrait of 139 Private (Pte) George Sharp, 16th Battalion, of Leederville, WA. An iron worker prior to enlisting on 14 September 1914, Pte Sharp embarked from Melbourne, Vic, aboard HMAT Ceramic, on 22 December 1914. He was awarded the Military Medal for 'great courage and devotion to duty' at Mouquet Farm on the night of 29 August 1916. He was killed in action on 11 April 1917, aged 23. On 10 August 1918, his brother Lieutenant Duncan Sharp was also killed in action.
