Sweetheart brooch : Private A Molloy, 2/1 Pioneer Battalion, AIF
Description
Small, rose gold and brass enamel sweetheart brooch with an Australian Commonwealth Military Forces 'rising sun' in the foreground. This is attached to an inverted, gilded brass boomerang supporting the word, 'Mother' in rose gold. There is a white metal pin fitting on the reverse.
History / Summary
This brooch was presented by NX69975 Private Allan Molloy to his mother, Lily Tressa Molloy in 1941. Born in Glebe, New South Wales in 1920, Molloy enlisted with 2/1 Pioneer Battalion on 13 March 1941 and subsequently served in the Middle East. He was discharged from service on 2 April 1946. His older brother, NX40006 Private Francis James Molloy enlisted in the AIF in July 1941 and became a prisoner of war in Thailand and Burma from 1943-1945.
