Studio portrait of 2126 Private (Pte) Cyril George Bartram, 58th Battalion, of Fairfield, Vic. Pte Cyril Bartram enlisted on 1 April 1916 at Richmond, Vic, and embarked from Melbourne aboard HMAT Orsova with the 4th Reinforcements on 1 August 1916. He was admitted to hospital with influenza in September 1916 and had numerous admissions to hospital in England until his return to Australia on 27 July 1917 due to constant illness. Pte Cyril Bartram was the second eldest of four serving brothers. The eldest brother, 6955 Private (Pte) Reginald Percy Bartram, died in Belgium on 4 October 1917. The other brothers were 2682 Sergeant Raymond Everard Bartram, killed 7 June 1917 aged 23 years; 2304 Pte Arnold Roy Bartram, killed 13 May 1917 aged 21 years.
