Studio portrait of 2304 Private (Pte) Arnold Roy Bartram, 58th Battalion, of Richmond, Vic. Prior to enlistment on 6 June 1916 Pte Bartram was a 21 year old shipping clerk who embarked from Melbourne aboard HMAT Orsova with the 4th Reinforcements on 1 August 1916. On 5 January 1917 he was transferred to the 60th Battalion. Whilst serving in France he died of gun shot wounds on 13 May 1917 aged 21 years. Pte Arnold Bartram was the youngest of four serving brothers. The other brothers were 6955 Private (Pte) Reginald Percy Bartram, eldest, killed in action in Belgium on 4 October 1917 aged 36 years; 2126 Private (Pte) Cyril George Bartram, who returned to Australia 27 July 1917 due to illness and 2682 Sergeant Raymond Everard Bartram, killed 7 June 1917 aged 23 years.
