Aerial view of a Viet Cong (VC) or North Vietnamese Army (NVA) bunker system demolished by Australian sappers from 1 Field Squadron, Royal Australian Engineers (RAE), during Operation Overlord which was conducted between 5 June 1971 and 14 June 1971. Operation Overlord was designed to be a search and clear operation intended to destroy VC and NVA units in the Suoi Nhac area, eight kilometres east north east of the intersection of route 2 and the Long Khanh-Phuoc Tuy provincial border. In nine days of operations the Australians suffered 32 casualties (including 12 killed in action), the loss of a helicopter and a number of vehicles. Six VC/NVA soldiers were killed and three were captured, along with two weapons, ammunition, clothing, food and medical supplies. A number of bunkers were also destroyed.
