Description
The HMAS Harman entrance where the flag of the United States of America and the Royal Australian navy ensign are flying. During the Second World War, HMAS Harman provided communications services for ships of the allied navies working in the Pacific region. A group of United States Navy radio operators were stationed there at this time. During this time, the first servicewomen began work as telegraphers, forming the basis of the Women's Royal Australian Naval Service (WRANS) which was formed in 1941.
