A coral beach used for an American mustard bomb trial on 4 April 1944 and an American mustard gas spray trial on 30 April 1944. The 1st Field Trials Company, Royal Australian Engineers (RAE), carried out experiments on the effects of mustard gas and other chemical warfare agents with the co-operation of United States (US) military forces and British military forces between1943 and 1945.
