Studio portrait of 6628 Lance Corporal (LCpl) George Eastbourne Molyneaux Jenkins, 21st Reinforcements, 4th Battalion, of Alexandria, NSW. A moulder prior to enlisting on 14 February 1916 he trained for seven months before he embarked from Sydney aboard HMAT Aeneas on 30 September 1916. LCpl Jenkins was wounded in action on 4 October 1917 and transferred back to England to recover. He returned to the front line in France and was killed in action on 17 April 1918 by an enemy sniper at Strazeele, France, aged 21 years. His brother, 4247A Corporal John Alexander Whitmore (Jack) Jenkins, 54th Battalion, also served with the AIF, and returned to Australia on 5 March 1919.
