The sergeants' lines amongst the rubber trees, at A Section, 1st Topographical Survey troop which accommodated five men. Identified left to right are: 5821 Sergeant (Sgt) Eric Charles Clutterbuck; 42054 Sgt Patrick David Cox; 29608 Sgt Edward Morris; 52770 Warrant Officer Class 2 Robert Birum Jones; 15542 Sgt Grant Edward Small. The men have acquired a corner block and erected a bamboo screen around their improvised beer garden which connects to their accommodation tents (left and right). The low sandbagged walls provide some protection from blast damage in case of an enemy mortar attack and the site has had some banana trees and ivy planted. The sign above the entrance reads 'Cave Serpentes Terribilli' (which loosly translates to beware the dreadful snakes).
