Description
A machine gunner of the United States Army, 1st Battalion, 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 173rd Airborne Brigade, shoots up into the hills near Gombad (also known as Gonbaz) where a Taliban soldier has been spotted inside a cave. The machine gunner, soldier feeding ammunition and observer are crouched on the top of their Humvee with their M240B machine gun attached to the roof by a pintle mount. An M72 rocket launcher is lying on the roof between the feet of the soldier feeding the ammunition. The 173rd Airborne Brigade was deployed to Afghanistan in February 2005 in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, the military response to the 11 September 2001 terrorist attacks on the United States.
